The first annual OcraFolk Festival of story and song will be held on June 10, 2000. If you are planning a summer visit to the island you might want to schedule your trip to include the festival. (Motel and ferry reservations are highly recommended.)
The weather on Ocracoke, like much of the East Coast, continues cold and blustery, although we have had only a few snow flurries and no accumulation.
Our monthly Civic Association discussed a number of issues last night including suggestions for stabilizing Highway 12 on the north end of the island. There is no immediate threat to the highway, although a reasonable long-term solution to periodic over wash would be welcomed.
For those of you who often wonder what we do on the island all winter, you might be interested in a few of our other recent off-season activities. These include EMT training, Tai Chi classes, Movie night at Jude’s home, an occasional Dance night (including traditional Ocracoke “square dancing,” contra dance and waltz), Line Dancing, Friday Night Poker, Women’s Night, School Basketball games, Girl Scout activities and Friends’ Meeting, as well as a number of other activities. And we still have time for family, friends and nature.
Remember, you can use the link at the top of the page to go directly to Village Craftsmen’s special on-line sale page which offers a 10% discount for anything ordered from that page. Let us know if you have questions about Ocracoke that you want us to address in this newsletter. We always enjoy hearing from our off-island friends.
Adios,
